Does anyone know how airlines categorize tickets and when to get the best deals?

I know that all airline tickets are not the same, atleast the way they are priced. In addition, airlines have wierd ways of selling tickets. It would be great if we knew how and when do the airlines act with respect to tickets. This will be helpful to be a bargain price on travels.

  1. Rule of thumb: The further in advance you commit, and the less people want to fly at the same time, the cheaper it gets. Also, flights for pleasure are cheaper than business flights, so staying over the weekend can result in dramatically decreased air fares, too.
  2. if ure in europe check "ryanair" that's really cheap
  3. I would suggest going on a couple discounted sites to find the best fare, and I always found tickets are cheaper if you leave before the weekend and return after the weekend. This has always worked for me :)
  4. The way airlines price tickets, anyone who doesn't work for an airline will never understand. I think they do have a few seats that are lower in price and then everything else is more expensive. As for bargain prices, I would not recommend flying during the summer months. After September or October the prices are usually lower since families are not taking vacations as much with kids being in school. Also depending on what city you live in, see if there is an alternative airport you can fly out of that is cheaper. For example, here in Cincinnati, Delta dominates. Therefore the prices are higher here. Many people choose to drive to Dayton, Columbus, Indianapolis or Louisville for cheaper prices.
  5. Hello Amigo... Is absolutely true...for a costumer is difficult to understand fares...and airline“s employees too... An airline founds their fares with sales prognostics and profit analysis (that's why is pretty different buy a ticket comparing season, month, day and hour) these help to fix all fares for an specific flight and route. It depends but mainly, categories are: -First -Business -Tourist each one has a sub-categories (so you can be seated next to someone who payed more or less than you, but you both are in the same cabin)... My advices... 1.The best way to get a good deal is ADVANCE (4 months approx. for international and 1 month approx. for domestic). Sometimes you can get really good fares with a year of advance, but depends of your plans... 2.Airlines sales are by: -Web sites (airline and others like travelocity.com) -Travel agencies -Aircraft offices -800 numbers The weak point is administrative charges, so don't pay more...get your tickets on web sites or 800 numbers(airlines)... But sometimes is better if you are looking at schedules, so now a better and cheap way is on Internet...
  6. the farther you book your flights the cheaper it is
