What airlines still allow you to fly standby at a lower fair cost?
I am trying to fly to vermont from san diego and would like to do so standby. But from what i hear, not a lot of airlines give you the discounted ticket price flying standby. They will simply sell it to you at regular price does anybody have any information about this?

- There are no airlines who sell discounted last-minute space available tickets anymore (what used to be referred to as "standby" tickets). This used to be common as a way to sell empty seats at the last minute, but airlines have tended to decrease their flights as a way to make their remaining flights more full. Add to that the logistical difficulty of selling seats to persons who can't get through security very easily (given that, since 9/11, you generally need to be ticketed in order to get through security), and you end up with a system that doesn't exist anymore. You're far better off simply buying your ticket when you can afford it -- if you wait until the last minute, the ticket is likely to be significantly more expensive than if you buy it sooner.
- No airline that I know of sells standby tickets anymore. The only way to get a discount is to book in advance. If you try to fly the same day you purchase your ticket you will be paying alot.
- As far as I know, no airline does (not that you have that many choices out of San Diego, anyway.)
- None.......remember 9/11?.......they don't want anyone hanging around the gate.......

- they all have good deals on standby, but i wouldn't risk going to the airport because you may not find a deal. there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
