What's the difference between Degrassi and Degrassi:The Next Generation?
I thought I was watching Degrassi. Then I saw a commercial that said "new episodes of Degrassi this February". And the characters were different. So I looked, and I was watching the Next Generation. So is the only difference between the shows the characters? And why did they start a different show anyway? Why isn't there just one Degrassi?

- the show degrassi the next generation has been on for 8 season and multiple new characters and cast changes throughout the years. you might have been watching an earlier episode from seasons 1-7 because i know in season 8, the have an almost an new cast. the show is degrassi the next generation, but most ppl simply call it degrassi. the show did start out as degrassi high, butthat was in the 80 and 90s and they dont show reruns anymore of that show.
- The first show was The Kids Of Degrassi Street, then Degrassi Junior High, then Degrassi High, then a movie called School's Out, and now they're doing Degrassi: The Next Generation, which takes place ten years after Degrassi High. The kids are now the adults, etc. However, Degrassi: The Next Generation has been airing since 2001.
- They are the same. The Degrassi one is from other seasons and the other one is the new season with new characters.
- There are a whole bunch of different degrassi shows, there's Kids on Degrassi street, Degrassi junior high, Degrassi high, and Degrassi the Next Generation. There in I think the 7th season (might be 8th) of The Next Generation is going to be one if February. Next Generation has so many characters its hard to keep up! I think they took out Paige, Marco, Ellie, ect... in season 6 because they were finishing up collage. And in season 7 Emma, Manny, Liberty, ect... went off to collage, so they had to add new characters to keep the show running. Personaly i like the earlier seasons better but thats just because i liked Paige and Ellie and Ashley and Craig :(
